He earned his PhD at Emory University in French and Comparative Literature in 2005. Among his teaching and research interests are medieval literature, gender and sexuality, Franco-Belgian comics, French and Spanish language, and grammar.

Poetry | MFA in Creative Writing - Low Residency | Jenny Johnson is the author of In Full Velvet (Sarabande Books, 2017). Her poems have appeared in The New York Times, Troubling the Line: Trans and Genderqueer Poetry and Poetics, Waxwing, and elsewhere. Her honors include a Whiting Award, a Hodder Fellowship, and an NEA Fellowship. She has also received awards and scholarships from the Blue Mountain Center, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Yaddo. She is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at West Virginia University, and she is on the faculty of the Rainier Writing Workshop, Pacific Lutheran University’s low-residency MFA program.

To CCWC: I found this photo of Clover Creek in the PLU Archives and was amazed at how calm and serene it looks under this canopy of trees! Planting trees along Clover Creek would be such a great way to restore native vegetation, support riparian ecosystems, and attract salmon back up the creek. It would take a lot of time and effort, but think of how many ways a tree-filled riparian area could improve the health of the creek! Best, Gretchen Johnson
